The power of inquiry
Three South Kansas students completing a history inquiry around unsung heroes discovered Irena Sandler who during WW2 rescued 2,500 children from the Warsaw Ghetto. Nobody knew until these students told her story and it moved across the world. The power of inquiry and global connections.
Without this Kansas history teaching intentionally bringing diversity into the classroom of these rural Kansas students the story of Irena Sandler and how she rescued these children and kept a record of their family background in buried jars under a tree, would be unknown.
